Cisco Systems (ticker: CSCO), IBM (IBM), Intel (INTC), Oracle (ORCL), Seagate Technology (STX), Western Digital (WDC), Xerox Holdings (XRX), HP Inc. (HPQ), and Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) still employ a total of 900,000 people. They account for $363 billion in annual revenue and $840 billion in stock market value. But their sales, accounting for inflation, are mostly going in reverse. The best of the bunch, Western Digital, is forecast to grow 4.4% next year. Xerox, the worst, is likely to see a 4.7% decline. Wall Street bankers have begun to mount a rescue effort.

Together, AI and the IoT are having a bigger-than-expected impact - Help Net Security

A survey of global business leaders reveals the most significant predictor in realizing value from Internet of Things (IoT) initiatives across an organization is the heavy use of artificial intelligence (AI). Ninety percent of survey respondents heavily using AI in their IoT operations reported exceeding value expectations. The research also showed organizations using IoT with AI appear to be more competitive than IoT-only enterprises by a double-digit margin across a variety of business indicators like employee productivity, innovation and operating costs. "In these results, we are seeing that organizations working with IoT data realize that if they want to get the real value out of the data, they need AI and analytics," said Oliver Schabenberger, COO at SAS. "I think it is fair to say that most successful IoT operations are actually AIoT operations." AIoT is defined as decision making aided by AI technologies in conjunction with connected IoT sensor, system or product data.

IoT needs AI to realise enterprise potential, study finds - Verdict

Companies are increasingly embracing the internet of things (IoT), but IoT initiatives on their own are falling short when compared to those that pair the technology with artificial intelligence (AI). This is according to a survey conducted at the IoT Solutions World Congress by SAS, Deliotte and Intel, which found that pairing the two technologies is yielding significantly improved benefits for businesses over IoT alone. In the survey of business leaders, 92% of those involved in IoT projects said that involving AI had resulted in benefits above expectations. When it comes to using the technology for daily planning, only 12% of organisations found IoT on its own to be beneficial, but when adding AI this number increased to 31%. This improvement was also found when applying the technology to operational speeds. For a third, combining the technologies was done primarily to increase revenues.
